Summary of Hypothesis:
The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

Note: Wood is absorbent and is absorbing hydrogen sulfide and/or methane until it spontaneously combusts. That's the cause they say for this fire: spontaneous combustion. Hey, sometimes they're actually right. But there is an actual possible identifiable ignition source here too. Hydrogen sulfide can ignite in the presence of rusty iron. A huge pile of thousands of scrap pallets is certain to have tens of thousands of nails, all exposed to the elements and rusting. And this fire apparently began near ground level, not at the top of the pile, which is where a heavier-than-air gas like hydrogen sulfide would tend to accumulate. So, hydrogen sulfide meets rusty nails, fire breaks out, spreads to the nearby pallets which have absorbed hydrogen sulfide and/or methane, and suddenly you have a humongous fire that is VERY difficult to suppress. There have been many fires involving pallets, including entire pallet companies. It is probably this same scenario playing out over and over, albeit not usually on such a large scale...
