Quote: "As per their prediction, civilization has only a 10 percent chance to survive, which they described as the most 'optimistic scenario.'"

Note: These particular scientists come to this conclusion based on resource consumption and deforestation. Other scientists have come to this same conclusion in different ways. They're all right. The human race is on the way out. Our hourglass is running out of sand and the planetary-scale forces now in play have gained such momentum that our fate is sealed...

Quote: "Forest fires have raged for months across Argentina’s delta wetland, threatening a major ecosystem with total destruction, experts warn. Severe drought led to the ParanĂ¡ River shriveling to its lowest level in decades, according to NASA’s Earth Observatory. As the shrinking river has caused economic damage -- grounding several ships and forcing companies to reduce cargo loads in order to navigate the shallower depths -- it also has allowed increased fire activity in the delta. Fires have raged for months now, with infernos visible from miles away, the Guardian reported."

Quote: "As journalist Habib Battah notes, the port handles billions of dollars' worth of imports, 'including national wheat silos.'"

Quote: "'Homes shattered for miles,' Battah says. 'Damages will be massive and could not come at worse time when everyone is broke and hungry.' Battah says his 'whole body' was moved by the explosion's shock wave — despite being 10 miles away from the port."

Quote: "The blast near Beirut's port sent up a huge mushroom cloud-shaped shockwave, flipping cars and damaging distant buildings. It was felt as far as Cyprus, hundreds of miles away, and registered as a 3.3 magnitude earthquake in the Lebanese capital."

Quote: "US Embassy in Beirut asks people to wear masks due to reports of toxic gases..."

Note: No idea what toxic gases they're talking about, but this city is on the coast though, so it could be hydrogen sulfide, or some byproduct of the explosion and fire here, or both. From what I gather, what happened here is a fireworks warehouse went up in flames and the fire then spread to a warehouse containing 2750 tons of explosive ammonium nitrate fertilizer, the same stuff Timothy McVeigh used in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. I warned about fireworks facilities exploding and igniting, and this is far from the first. From the full hypothesis: "Ammo depots will be hit with explosions and fires, including the civilian versions like fireworks factories."

If they'd been paying attention to what I'm saying, they wouldn't have put a fireworks facility next to a gigantic pile of ammonium nitrate and they'd still have a city. If they were just minimally rational people, they wouldn't have had a gigantic pile of ammonium nitrate in a highly populated area to begin with either, just as a general principle. The force of this explosion was a little more than 1/7th that of the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, or around 1,375 times the force of the explosion that destroyed the Murray Building in Oklahoma City, to give a sense of the scale of this explosion...

Quote: "Much of Canada's remaining intact ice shelf has broken apart into hulking iceberg islands thanks to a hot summer and global warming, scientists said. Canada's 4,000-year-old Milne Ice Shelf on the northwestern edge of Ellesmere Island had been the country's last intact ice shelf until the end of July when ice analyst Adrienne White of the Canadian Ice Service noticed that satellite photos showed that about 43% of it had broken off. She said it happened around July 30 or 31. Two giant icebergs formed along with lots of smaller ones, and they have already started drifting away, White said. The biggest is nearly the size of Manhattan — 21 square miles (55 square kilometers) and 7 miles long (11.5 kilometers). They are 230 to 260 feet (70 to 80 meters) thick."

2020-08-13 - Excess deaths indicate COVID-19 causing more deaths than indicated by confirmed cases:
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/the-excess-deaths-tally-in-the-us-is-204691-in-7-months-so-covid-19-deaths-might-be-undercounted-2020-08-13

Quote: "The number of deaths in the United States through July 2020 is 8% to 12% higher than it would have been if the coronavirus pandemic had never happened. That’s at least 164,937 deaths above the number expected for the first seven months of the year — 16,183 more than the number attributed to COVID-19 thus far for that period — and it could be as high as 204,691."

Note: This is why excess death stats are often used in pandemics. There's nothing ambiguous about counting bodies going into the ground, whereas tests may have false positives or false negatives, or may never be administered at all. Not all excess deaths will be a DIRECT pathogenic death. A grandson may die of COVID-19 and then because he doesn't get grandpa to the hospital for his dialysis treatment, grandpa dies from renal failure. But had the pandemic not been there, the grandson wouldn't have gotten infected and died, grandpa would've gotten his dialysis treatment, and neither would be dead. Even if both people were tested, and both tests were accurate, the virus would only be listed as the cause of one of those deaths, but both deaths WERE actually caused by the virus, and both deaths WILL show up in excess death statistics.

Excess death statistics measure the impact of a pandemic in terms of lives lost without worrying about whether person A or person B died from the direct effects of the PATHOGEN or not - it's enough to know that the deaths were the result of the PANDEMIC, and the number of lives lost to the current pandemic is obviously higher than the death tolls we've been given, else the number of bodies going into the ground would not be as high as it is. E.g., they are somewhat downplaying the body count resulting from this pandemic, and the excess death count reveals the extent of the downplaying...

2020-08-13 - Excess death counts in New York City from 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic and COVID-19 pandemic are in the same ballpark:
http://www.managedhealthcareexecutive.com/view/nyc-mortality-from-1918-flu-pandemic-covid-19-comparable-say-researchers
http://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2769236

Quote: "Excess deaths associated with the two pandemics are in the same ballpark during New York City peaks. The excess mortality in New York City during the peak of the 1918 flu pandemic and the excess mortality during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic were similar, according to a brief research report published in today’s JAMA Network Open."

Quote: "During the peak months of the 1918 flu epidemic, there were 31,589 deaths from all causes among the city’s 5.5 million residents, according to Jeremy Samuel Faust, M.D., M.S., at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and his colleagues, Zhenqiu Lin, Ph.D., at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and Carlos de Rio, M.D., at the Emory University School of Medicine. That works out to 287.17 deaths per 100,000 person-months."

Quote: "During the early phase of the COVID-19 outbreak in the city, between March 11 and May 11, there were 33,465 deaths from all causes among the 8.3 million residents, Faust and his colleagues calculated. That works out to 202.08 deaths per 100,000 person-months, so a lower proportion than the one for the 1918 flu epidemic peak period but still in the same ballpark."

Note: So 202.08 deaths per 100,000 people for COVID-19 compared to 287.17 deaths per 100,000 people for the 1918 Spanish Flu, which makes COVID-19 about 70% as deadly when measured across the peaks of both pandemics. That tracks pretty well with the overall death count too. We're at about 75% of the death count, nationally, of the 1918 Spanish Flu at this point in that pandemic. COVID-19 could yet be the deadliest US pandemic ever if we don't do much to tame it and/or if it simply continues for a longer period of time than the 1918 Spanish Flu, especially if it continues killing 1,000+ people or more per day...

2020-08-13 - COVID-19 death toll rises by nearly 1,500 in a day in the US, worst single-day death toll since May:
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/coronavirus-update-global-cases-top-206-million-and-us-suffers-biggest-one-day-death-toll-since-may-2020-08-13

Quote: "The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus illness COVID-19 world-wide rose above 20.7 million on Thursday and the U.S. suffered its biggest death toll since May with almost 1,500 fatalities counted in a single day."

Note: That brings us back to more than 1 death per minute...

Quote: "The National Weather Service issued its first-ever tornado warning for a twister spawned by fire early Saturday afternoon after a wildfire in Northern California produced a towering, flaming vortex."

Note: Some of these firenado stories say they can be destructive and mention the 2018 firenado in California. None of them mention the fact that BEFORE 2018 there had NEVER been a firenado like that one, which was equivalent in force to a powerful EF-3 tornado. That was something new, not seen before. I said back then that now that we'd seen something like that, we were likely to see more of it. That tornado ripped across a valley, tearing trees out of the ground and sucking up vehicles, then igniting them and throwing them for miles. It was like something out of a Sifi Channel apocalypse movie. And now for the first time the National Weather Service has issued a firenado warning. That's not been seen before either.

Pay attention to things happening that haven't happened before or which are now occurring at rates never seen before, like the fires raging in the Arctic, the flesh-eating bacteria events, the increasing numbers of cyanobacteria blooms, the algae spreading and discoloring the snow in the Arctic and Antarctic, the escalation in hydrogen-sulfide-spewing sargassum seaweed events, the melting of the ice at both poles, the rise in deadly heatwaves across the planet, including 100F temps above the Arctic Circle, the increasing number of megaflood events, the melting of the permafrost in Canada, Alaska and Siberia, and on and on...

http://www.space.com/death-valley-temperature-record.html
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53788018

Quote: "One of the hottest air temperatures recorded anywhere on the planet in at least a century and possibly ever has been reached at Death Valley in California’s Mojave Desert, where it has soared to 54.4C. An automated observation system in the valley’s sparsely populated Furnace Creek reported the record at 3.41pm on Sunday at the crest of an extreme heat wave, a more frequent occurrence due to climate change."

Quote: "A temperature of 56.7C was recorded in Death Valley in July 1913, and Kebili, Tunisia, is said to have hit 55C in July 1931, according to the World Meteorological Organisation. But recent research by Christopher Burt, an extreme weather expert, has led some meteorologists to view these older records as the results of observer error."

Quote: "All these records arrive as global climate conditions rapidly deteriorate. For instance, the Arctic is ablaze with wildfires for the second year in a row, which scientists worry means we have entered a global 'fire regime' that even pessimistic climate change models didn't anticipate arriving until around the 2050s, according to The Post."

Note: Maybe the most pessimistic climate change models didn't anticipate a 'global fire regime' arriving until around the 2050s, but *I* warned about that in 2012. From the full hypothesis: "Probably the most noticeable effect [of this extinction event] will be fires and explosions sweeping across the planet." I warned about the planet going up in flames before the deadly California wildfires, before the deadly forest fires in Portugal, before massive wildfires ripped across Australia and killed 3 billion animals, before the giant peat fires began in Indonesia, before the Arctic started going up in flames, before the deadliest high-rise fire in British history, before wildfires began burning above the Arctic Circle in Sweden, before car-carrier ships began going up in flames. I knew what was going to happen, I said what was going to happen - because I thought my fellow human beings deserved a heads-up - and what I said was going to happen IS HAPPENING...

Quote: "Greenland’s ice sheet melted more last year than any year previously recorded, according to a new study, in another sign of the devastating impacts of a warming planet. The research, published in the journal Communications Earth and Environment on Thursday, found that in 2019 Greenland’s ice sheet lost an annual record of 532 billion tons of ice, with 223 billion tons of ice lost during the month of July alone. To put that in comparison, between 2003 and 2016 the ice sheet lost about 255 billion tons of ice on average — per year."

Quote: "The report follows another study published last week that found Greenland's ice sheet has melted to a point of no return, and is retreating in rapid bursts, leading to a sudden and unpredictable rise in sea levels."

Note: This ice sheet is in irrevocable decline now. That means, for sure, 90% of the world's major cities ARE going to be destroyed, and the majority of nuclear plants are going to be destroyed too, releasing flesh-meltingly huge amounts of radiation into the atmosphere if they aren't shut down in time, which they likely won't be. I don't think 'the markets' have priced this problem in yet. If you're thinking this will take decades or centuries, don't be so sure. The Vavilov Ice Cap in the Russian Arctic suddenly started melting recently and in short order 11% of its ice mass flowed into the ocean. So now that Greenland's ice sheet is in the process of destabilizing, something similar could happen there, and we could see billions of people forced to flee coastal cities within a decade, at which point civilization as we know it will likely collapse if it hasn't already collapsed by then. The drastic melting of the Vavilov Ice Cap was mentioned in the 2019-12-22 update. That was BEFORE temps above the Arctic Circle had reached 100F, which happened this year...

Quote: "Flames were as high as 100 feet in the air. Marshall County Fire Chief Matt Fox told News 2 The fire consumed crushed cars and cars ready to be crushed that contained fuel tanks that could be heard exploding. A fire truck was 60 feet from the fire and was too hot to touch because of heat in the air. Crews were there for about nine hours. Fox said it’s the biggest fire they have ever seen at this yard."

Note: No doubt COVID-19 is having a dire effect on food production and availability, but it wasn't COVID-19 that just flattened ten million acres of crops in Iowa and it isn't COVID-19 that's burning through wine country in California right now, and it wasn't COVID-19 that's been wiping out crops via floods and droughts and hailstorms across the world. 2020-08-22 - Unknown rotten egg odor regularly blowing across coastal Yokosuka (Japan):
http://japantoday.com/category/national/mystery-odor-haunts-kanagawa-prefecture-worries-seismologist

Quote: "At about 8:40 in the morning of Aug 21st, the Yokosuka Fire Department in Kanagawa Prefecture received 40 calls to their 119 emergency number all reporting a 'smell of gas' in the area over the course of an hour."

Quote: "This spate of reports is currently being looked into, but most are expecting the cause to be unknown. This is because the exact same situation has happened there twice before in as many months. In the early hours of July 17, emergency calls flooded in from Yokosuka and neighboring Miura City, and in the evening of June 4, about 260 calls were made to fire and police hotlines, all saying 'it smells like gas.'"

Quote: "Readers of the news were also at a loss to pinpoint the cause of what’s happening in the area. 'It’s happening every month, and they still can’t figure it out? What is it? Methane?'"

Quote: "This is like in disaster movies when strange phenomenon begins before the real bad stuff starts."

Note: Obviously it's not methane, since methane is odorless and nobody ever smells methane. No natural gas was detected. They're right on the coast, so this is very likely hydrogen sulfide blowing in off the ocean. And the last commenter is correct: this is the precursor to the real bad stuff. This is by no means the first coastal area to be hit by unknown rotten egg odors. It's happened in the US, Britain, Australia, India, Pakistan, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, France and other countries too. These events are collectively signs that the Earth is revving up its ancient extinction mechanism and preparing to wipe humanity off the map...

http://www.newsbreak.com/virginia/portsmouth/news/2046946715714/why-are-there-so-many-jellyfish-in-virginia-and-north-carolina-this-year

Quote: "This past July was hot. Record-breaking hot. Who really likes warm water? Jellyfish. Temperatures in Norfolk, where records are kept, averaged 85 degrees Fahrenheit for July, shattering previous records. Normal July temperatures for our area average around 79 degrees. Warm air lead to warmer water and the jellyfish took note."

Note: Just a few years ago one of the nuclear plants on the East Coast was forced to temporarily shut down for the first time ever because the ocean water was too warm to provide adequate cooling. Eventually all of the nuclear plants will have to shut down for that reason, assuming they don't get submerged by the rising seas and melt down first. Humanity's going to go extinct, but I expect jellyfish will do just fine. They've survived numerous extinction events, even horrifically bad ones like the current extinction event.

The rising water temps are causing other problems in addition to the explosion in the populations of jellyfish: deoxygenation and fish kills, problems with fish and sea turtle reproduction, starvation of sea birds, massive coral bleaching events, increasing numbers of toxic cyanobacteria outbreaks, increasing numbers of people dying from brain-eating amoebas, rising numbers of incidents involving flesh-eating bacteria, rising number of incidents involving hydrogen-sulfide-spewing sargassum seaweed patches hitting beaches around the world, increased melt rate at glaciers exposed to the water, etc.

Quote: "The increase in shipping is a worry for the environment. As those heavy ships burn fuel, they release climate-warming carbon dioxide as well as black soot. That soot blankets nearby ice and snow, absorbing solar radiation rather than reflecting it back out of the atmosphere, which exacerbates warming in the region."

Note: That's right, the crisis is happening now, not at some point in the distant future. And it is going to get a whole lot worse. Things are going to get so bad that this planet will no longer be survivable by human beings. And once we've been wiped out then things are going to get REALLY bad. But that will be a problem for the cockroaches and rats and bacteria that will still be here after we're gone...

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/huge-blast-leaves-giant-165ft-22597329
http://imgur.com/gallery/Zopxv2M

Quote: "A huge crater has appeared in Russia’s Arctic region following a massive explosion. Scientists believe the 165ft-deep hole was caused by the eruption of a build-up of methane gas beneath the thawing permafrost following record temperatures over the summer. It was reportedly initially spotted by chance by a television crew flying over the Yamal peninsula on their way back from an unrelated job in July. Blocks of ice and soil were scattered hundreds of metres from the epicentre by the force of the blast, according to scientists who studied the site after it was discovered by Vesti Yamal TV."

Quote: "Due to a buildup in methane in a rapidly heating Siberian permafrost, an explosion occurred that tossed boulders of frozen soil and ice 'hundreds of metres' into the sky from the epicenter of the blast in the Yamal Penninsula."

Quote: "It’s thought gas was released in soil which has been frozen for thousands of years but is now starting to defrost."

Quote: "Climate models considering only gradual permafrost thaw are substantially underestimating carbon emissions from thawing permafrost."

Quote: "After Vesti Yamal TV discovered the deep crater, scientists travelled out there to examine it. They reckon it's the biggest hole they've seen like this. One of those scientists, Dr Evgeny Chuvilin, a leading researcher at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, said that the crater was 'striking in its size and grandeur'."

Quote: "It is the 17th crater of its kind to be found and documented in Yamal since 2014 – and is thought to be the biggest."

Note: When the first methane explosion blasted a gigantic crater in the ground in this area, I said then that this is one of those things where once you see it happen once, it's very likely to happen again and again. And here we are at #17 so far, and those are just the ones that we know about. This is a vast and remote area, so it's probably happened many more times that nobody's even noticed yet. They only found this crater because an aircraft just happened to fly over this area.

The more of these explosions that happen, the more methane that is released into the atmosphere, which warms things up more, which makes more of these methane explosions happen, which releases more methane into the atmosphere, which warms things up more, and so on and so on. An uncontrollable and unstoppable chain reaction of warming and methane releases reinforcing and amplifying each other is now happening. One can envision a future where the ground is randomly exploding all over the place regularly, like gigantic bombs constantly going off, destroying whatever's in the general area. There may not be any human beings left alive on the planet by then though...

Quote: "Even once patients do test negative, many patients are reporting that their symptoms -- from aches to loss of smell to brain fog and affected mood -- can last months longer. 'We think that this long-term damage may in part be due to vascular damage, kind of a footprint that the virus leaves even when it's gone from the body,' Dr. William Li told CNN's Chris Cuomo earlier this week, adding that researchers have seen the virus damaging blood vessels that connect the entire body."
