Methane Hydrate Maps
Here are a couple of maps showing the location of methane clathrate (or methane hydrate) deposits around the world. As you can see, all of the world's natural gas reserves, oil reserves, and coal reserves combined are not even equal to one third of the methane in these deposits. These deposits have begun to dissociate and release the stored methane.
