Things are greening up, though the trees look "thin" leafing out this year.

Jonny providing another comprehensive list of incidents that have become normal but are baffling to anyone paying the least bit of attention. We're in a kind of zombie state now, walkin' around, doin' our little lives and continuing along as we have for hundreds of years. Unfortunately it isn't going to continue for very much longer, as our world population continues to grow placing ever-more demand on a dwindling list of resources, not least of which is clean drinking water. At the same time earthquakes and volcanoes are destroying cities and "disrupting commerce" other factors are becoming more noticeable, though silent, like sea level rise, air pollution (methane and hydrogen sulfide included) and radiation. We're sleep walking to extinction (as one author put it) in that we'll just continue to do our mindless human activity because that's how we put food on the table, make our lives somehow "meaningful" and because we have no idea what else to do.

There's no better wake-up call than an earthquake or tornado (or tsunami) that breaks through all the psychological "bed-time stories" we continually tell ourselves to keep us on this treadmill. Suddenly it's about survival. And since you can't do it all by yourself (try dentistry on yourself, for example), you naturally look to each other and cooperation (NOT competition) becomes the only way forward. Now, what happens if there IS no help coming - nobody shows up with water and food, the fires can't be put out, the air is toxic to breathe, and you have to DO SOMETHING, but are gripped by the panic and immediacy of the moment and it's hard to move at all.

A surreal quality of sluggishness and heightened awareness of minutia tends to overcome most - it's SHOCK. Our brains are overwhelmed with the chemical mix in the air we breathing, people are screaming from fear and severe pain. The dead are strewn around with burned bodies and separated body parts littering the landscape - too many to deal with. Things are burning, there's no water pressure, explosions erupt randomly and with no notice, while sinkholes and collapsing buildings threaten. Maybe it's in the wee hours of the morning and confusion, lack of sleep and panic don't help the situation.

There's a reality check.

Tom

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
