For privacy fences, whether they're wo...Jonny:<br /><br />For privacy fences, whether they're wood, plastic or even chain-link, the anchoring has to be done right. If you cement wooden 4 x 4's into the ground the base will rot out unless coated with roof tar and kept up with regularly (even treated lumber) - if you use that plastic decking material (for the posts) you have a better chance of it staying up longer, but it's expensive. For exterior posts of any kind, make sure you have about 2 feet in the ground and tamp rocks, gravel and dirt around to keep them in place instead of using cement. Secondly fences should allow air flow while obstructing sight - that provides less area for the wind to impact.<br /><br />Sorry to hear about your fence (be glad it wasn't your roof).<br /><br />TomAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
