Event Update For 2020-07-21

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

2020-07-21 - First active hydrogen sulfide and methane leak discovered on the sea floor in Antarctica:
http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jul/22/first-active-leak-of-sea-bed-methane-discovered-in-antarctica
http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/first-active-leak-of-methane-from-antarctica-s-sea-floor-revealed-1.4310660

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1127139137
http://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rspb.2020.1134

Quote: "The first active leak of methane from the sea floor in Antarctica has been revealed by scientists. The researchers also found microbes that normally consume the potent greenhouse gas before it reaches the atmosphere had only arrived in small numbers after five years, allowing the gas to escape."

Quote: "Researchers say potent climate-heating gas almost certainly escaping into atmosphere..."

Quote: "In 2011, an expansive (70 m × 1 m) microbial mat formed at 10 m water depth in the Ross Sea, Antarctica which we identify here to be a high latitude hydrogen sulfide and methane seep. Through 16S rRNA gene analysis on samples collected 1 year and 5 years after the methane seep formed, we identify the taxa involved in the Antarctic methane cycle and quantify the response rate of the microbial community to a novel input of methane. One year after the seep formed, ANaerobic MEthane oxidizing archaea (ANME), the dominant sink of methane globally, were absent. Five years later, ANME were found to make up to 4% of the microbial community, however the dominant member of this group observed (ANME-1) were unexpected considering the cold temperature (-1.8°C) and high sulfate concentrations (greater than 24 mM) present at this site."

Quote: "'The delay [in methane consumption] is the most important finding,' said Andrew Thurber, from Oregon State University in the US, who led the research. 'It is not good news. It took more than five years for the microbes to begin to show up and even then there was still methane rapidly escaping from the sea floor.'"

Note: They've already found numerous leaks in the sea floor in the Arctic, and there are the exploding methane craters on the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia, but this is the first active methane leak found on the sea floor in Antarctica...

The deluge continues, almost 10 million people have been displaced across a wide spread of Southern Asia as torrential rains continue to cause havoc in the area. According to a report in The Star Tribune, thousands more are struggling to get food and medicine, nearly 600 people have died in India and Nepal. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, or IFRC, claimed a humanitarian crisis can not be avoided, saying that close to one-third of Bangladesh has already been flooded, with more flooding expected in the coming weeks. I've a couple of mates who work for Google. They both must remain anonymous of course. They drip feed me bits of information from time to time. Around four years ago, one of them told me that the demonetisation of alternative news channels would become standard. He was right as I learned when my original YouTube channel, which had nearly 100,000 subscribers, was deleted for no reason, three years ago.

I heard from him this morning. He told me two things. He said that when the covid vaccine is ready, or shortly before then, Google/YouTube is planning to take down thousands of channels that have traditionally hosted open discussion around vaccine safety. They will do this he said, in tandem with Facebook and Twitter. According to him, discussions between all three have already taken place. He reckons it'll be the biggest culling to date, of content creators and independent vloggers/commentators.

While this may be unsurprising, it is important news and I trust him implicitly. He also said that it is his belief (and I've said as much myself) that Russian interference claims are nothing but a smokescreen for mass censorship. They (the royal they), know damn well that the Russians are not responsible for spreading anti-vaccine information online, pro-Brexit propaganda or information about 5G. They KNOW he said, that these initiatives are grassroots organisations, set up by genuinely concerned citizens, but that the easiest way to legislate for them and ultimately to censor them, is to blame Russia. Problem Reaction Solution. [more]

https://www.yahoo.com/gma/covid-19-rashes-skin-sign-virus-090208042--abc-news-topstories.html [~ 2.75 min. video & text]One of the most widely talked about skin findings related to coronavirus infection is the so-called "COVID toes" syndrome. Dr. Ginette Okoye, chair of the department of dermatology at Howard University, described these as "a reddish-purple discoloration on the toes, accompanied by swelling and pain." Like many other symptoms of the virus, COVID toes are caused by "inflamed blood vessels."

Having COVID toes is not necessarily a cause for alarm, in fact, Okoye said it can be "a sign that your body is mounting a good immune response to the SARS-CoV2 virus, since it tends to occur in patients with otherwise mild COVID symptoms."

Ann Taylor Parent Goes Bankrupt, Plans to Shut Over 1,000 Stores
    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/ann-taylor-parent-files-bankruptcy-102426266.html

[making the unemployment numbers even more unbelievable]

Ascena Retail Group Inc., owner of the Ann Taylor and Lane Bryant clothing chains, will close more than half its stores and hand control to its lenders after the Covid-19 pandemic tipped the debt-laden retailer into bankruptcy.

The court filing on Thursday is the latest among U.S. retailers that have been pushed over the edge by shutdowns tied to the outbreak. The Chapter 11 action allows Ascena to avoid a permanent shutdown, cut its borrowings and close weak stores to minimize costs.

Ascena has about 40,000 employees, according to court papers, and some of them are bound to lose their jobs. The company plans to shut select locations in the U.S., all its stores in Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico, and the entire Catherines chain.

Ultimately, Ascena expects to cut its 2,800 stores down to just 1,200, and current shareholders will be wiped out, according to court papers filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District of Virginia.

The company listed about $12.5 billion of liabilities, including $1.6 billion of funded debt. More than two-thirds of its secured term lenders support its restructuring plan, and they’ll wind up owning most of the new equity, Ascena said in a statement and court papers.

Almost $1 billion in debt will be erased, and Ascena will get $150 million in fresh funds from existing lenders.[more; wait WHAT?]

Climate change: Democratic alarmism leads to failing policies
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/climate-change-democratic-alarmism-leads-163823009.html [Bjorn Lomborg opinion]

Over the past few decades, climate change has been cast in ever more apocalyptic terms. A new global survey shows that almost half the world’s population and about 4 of 10 Americans believe global warming will likely lead to the extinction of the human race.

Incessantly claiming the end of the world is near is simply unbridled alarmism and untethered to the actual research presented by the UN Climate Panel. [BWAH-HAAA-HAAAAA!]

In this context, House Democrats have joined a long list of prominent global politicians across the last decades who promise to fix global warming, outlined in a 538 page Congressional Action Plan. Among many other proposals, it promises no new gasoline cars by 2035, ending fossil fuels in the power sector by 2040, and reducing the net emissions from the U.S. to zero by 2050. Appropriately, speaker Nancy Pelosi capped her presentation by promising the plan would be “saving the planet.”

It might seem odd to be discussing climate change in the midst of a global pandemic. However, the Democrats point out that climate, not corona or the recession, is the “essential crisis of our time” as it threatens devastating health and economic consequences. [what, you don't think so Bjorn?]

Yes, climate change is a real challenge [!?!] that we need to tackle smartly. But suggesting it is an “existential threat” to human existence, as Joe Biden frequently claims, causes us to panic and make poor decisions. Instead, we need to weigh costs and benefits of climate action. [more; yeah right . ..]

  6. [ooh, update on consciousness!]
Could Consciousness All Come Down to the Way Things Vibrate?
    https://getpocket.com/explore/item/could-consciousness-all-come-down-to-the-way-things-vibrate

A resonance theory of consciousness suggests that the way all matter vibrates, and the tendency for those vibrations to sync up, might be a way to answer the so-called ‘hard problem’ of consciousness.

The central thesis of our approach is this: the particular linkages that allow for large-scale consciousness – like those humans and other mammals enjoy – result from a shared resonance among many smaller constituents. The speed of the resonant waves that are present is the limiting factor that determines the size of each conscious entity in each moment.

As a particular shared resonance expands to more and more constituents, the new conscious entity that results from this resonance and combination grows larger and more complex. So the shared resonance in a human brain that achieves gamma synchrony, for example, includes a far larger number of neurons and neuronal connections than is the case for beta or theta rhythms alone. Russia's Permafrost Is Melting and Its Farmers Are Cashing In
    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/not-far-tundra-soybeans-flourish-040048228.html

Just below the Arctic tundra, in the vast plains that blanket much of northern Russia, a once-unthinkable business is taking hold: soybean farming.

It's the result of years of rising global temperatures, which are thawing the permafrost and turning the land into fertile soil, and now Agronomist Gennady Bochkovsky is helping to take the crop to the next frontier, testing whether the beans can handle the upper areas of the Moscow region. So far, he says, the results are promising. [more]

Best and worse case scenarios for global warming are unlikely, says comprehensive new study
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/07/22/best-worse-case-scenarios-global-warming-unlikely-says-comprehensive/

The best and worst-case scenarios of global warming are unlikely to occur, according to a comprehensive new study on climate probabilities. A prediction of 1.5-4.5C warming if atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide are doubled has been the international standard since 1979. But a new study authored by a 25-strong team of international climate scientists over four years suggests it is “extremely unlikely” that warming would stay below 2C above pre-industrial levels, and puts minimum warming at 2.3C. The likelihood of staying between 1.5C and 2C is 5 per cent, the authors say. The study maintains the top temperature at 4.5C, but says some recent predictions that warming above that will be reached are also “unlikely”, with a 6-18 per cent chance. A less cautious analysis by the experts puts likely warming at an even narrower range of 2.6-3.9C.

The proof is in the sewage: hundreds of Yosemite visitors may have had coronavirus
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/proof-sewage-hundreds-yosemite-visitors-090009437.html

The San Francisco Chronicle reported last week that the county health department has been collecting untreated wastewater flowing from the idyllic Yosemite Valley for testing. Prior to this effort, according to the Chronicle, no one had tested positive for the virus through nasal swab testing at the park’s health clinic.

Scientists at a lab called Biobot Analytics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, have examined the sewage water to determine if there are traces of genetic material from Sars-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, in the human feces. From the traces in a given sample, they can estimate how many people passing through Yosemite might be infected with Covid-19 at that time. [more; what "traces of genetic material"?]
