Event Update For 2020-07-11

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

People waited in a long queue to enter the Matroosberg Nature Reserve on Saturday to get a first-hand glimpse of the snow that fell over the Western Cape highlands on the weekend.

The intense cold front that hit South Africa on Thursday created the perfect winter wonderland thanks to widespread snowfall in the Eastern Cape, Lesotho and areas across the Western Cape.

The muddy and ice-cold conditions didn't deter people from hiking the short distance into the mountains to play in the snow - many for the first time.

"This is breathtaking," said TEFL teacher Donito Adonis who got to hold snow for the first time. "I never thought I'd see snow like this in South Africa," he told News24. [more]

A fire with an interesting name
    https://wildfiretoday.com/2020/07/12/a-fire-with-an-interesting-name/

    And, Contain vs. Control

It is unusual for a large fire to have more than two words in the fire’s name, not counting the word “fire”. And it is not common for a fire name to be a multi-word phrase. Fire agency employees whose jobs entail completing forms or maintaining records get grumpy when they have to write or type over and over, a long fire name or one that may lead to misspelling.

A fire 17 miles southeast of Albuquerque, New Mexico on the Cibola National Forest is named “Ojo de los Caso Fire”. Since it was reported on July 8 the blaze has burned 180 acres of timber, brush, and grass.

The names for many fires are derived from a nearby landmark. I asked the Fire Information Officer Andrea Chavez how the fire was named and what it means in English:

Ojo de los Casos colloquially translates to Spring of the Cause. However, it is possible this name was derived from an older nomenclature, Ojo de Casa (House Spring), which has been found on older maps of the area.

The incident management team on the Ojo de los Casos Fire posted on InciWeb July 11 that the fire was 10 percent contained. [more]

Here's how scientists know the coronavirus came from bats and wasn't made in a lab
    https://theconversation.com/heres-how-scientists-know-the-coronavirus-came-from-bats-and-wasnt-made-in-a-lab-141850

If the virus had been genetically engineered in a lab there would be signs of manipulation in the genome data. This would include evidence of an existing viral sequence as the backbone for the new virus, and obvious, targeted inserted (or deleted) genetic elements.

But no such evidence exists. It is very unlikely that any techniques used to genetically engineer the virus would not leave a genetic signature, like specific identifiable pieces of DNA code.

The genome of SARS-CoV-2 is similar to that of other bat coronaviruses, as well as those of pangolins, all of which have a similar overall genomic architecture. Differences between the genomes of these coronaviruses show natural patterns typical of coronavirus evolution. This suggests that SARS-CoV-2 evolved from a previous wild coronavirus. [more]

While Trump this week said the country is in "a good place," Giroir, who serves as the assistant secretary of Health in the Department of Health and Human Services and coordinates the federal government's coronavirus testing programs, characterized the current situation as "a better place" than in April but said to expect hospitalizations and death rates to rise in the coming weeks.

"We're all very concerned about the rise in cases, no doubt about that, and that's why we're meeting regularly, we're surging in assistance, but we are in a much better place," Giroir told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos.[more]

‘Disheveled’ campsite spurs search for missing California woman in national forest
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/disheveled-campsite-spurs-search-missing-192243104.html

A 54-year-old California woman remains missing in the Sierra National Forest following the discovery of her “disheveled” campsite and crashed Saab, Madera County officials say.

Sandra Johnsen Hughes was last in contact with her family June 26, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. She had been on a solo camping trip in the national forest northwest of Fresno and south of Yosemite National Park.

“She said she was quarantining in the national forest,” said Ashley Macus, her niece, reported Sierra News Online. Hughes had recently moved to California from Hawaii.

On Monday, searchers found Hughes’ silver Saab, which had apparently rolled into a ravine after colliding with a tree near Chiquito Creek, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. Hikers also reported seeing her over the Fourth of July weekend.

“She was barefoot and had a bruise on her face,” said deputy Sarah Jackson, reported Sierra News Online. Hughes declined assistance from the hikers.

“So there’s so much that happened that’s just as a family we can’t really explain it,” Macus said, KFSN reported.

Sheriff’s officials describe Hughes as being 5-foot-3 and 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. They ask that anyone with information contact the sheriff’s office at (559) 675-7770. [more]
