Sorry for your loss too.

Hey, look what I found:

http://news.yahoo.com/pacific-storm-julio-unleashes-powerful-dark-lightning-flash-164519884.html

Pacific Storm Julio Unleashes Powerful 'Dark Lightning' Flash

Before the Hawaii-bound storm Julio strengthened into a hurricane, a NASA satellite spotted a high-energy flash of "dark lightning" coming from the swirling clouds.

NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope is designed to detect the brightest explosions in the universe — gamma-rays emitted from sources like supermassive black holes or stars that go supernova. But gamma-rays, which are invisible to the naked eye and last only a few thousandths of a second, can also come from sources on Earth.

On Monday (Aug. 4) at 4:19 a.m. EDT (0819 GMT), when Julio was still a fledgling tropical storm hundreds of miles off the coast of Mexico, Fermi witnessed what's known as a terrestrial gamma-ray flash (TGF) above the clouds, according to NASA.

"As far as I know, a TGF from a tropical storm has never been reported before," Michael Briggs, a member of the team in charge of Fermi's Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GMB) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, said in a statement from NASA.

[there's more]

TomAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4388504906915444063.post-92121474057153844752014-08-08T12:16:17.005-05:002014-08-08T12:16:17.005-05:00Sorry you lost your pup friend! I didn't say anything at the time, because it hurt too much, but my cat companion of almost 18 years died on Cinco de Mayo this year.I'd hoped he'd make it to 18, but nope, didn't quite make it. I know how painful it is to lose a longtime friend and companion, and I completely empathize. They're worth the pain, but man, when they go, ouch.Jonny Mnemonichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06516458612879773986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4388504906915444063.post-53513371794318822222014-08-08T11:53:27.055-05:002014-08-08T11:53:27.055-05:00Hey Jonny: i'm havin' trouble posting her...Hey Jonny: i'm havin' trouble posting here with the captcha stuff going wonkie on me after I press "publish." Hope it clears up.

My pit mix died this morning. 11 great years of sleepin' beside me at night, playin' ball, keepin' the evil spirits away - i'm really gonna miss him. I just buried him out back. Don't tell anyone but i'm cryin' while writin' this, like my heart's been ripped out. Let me get my act together and i'll write some more.

whew

Along the lines of the big chunk of cliff that fell, there was an article a few years back (i'll look for it later) describing how if this one big chunk of land falls (and it's been poised to for decades) into the sea from somewhere off maybe Portugal (or somewhere near there) it would cause an enormous tsunami of the east coast of the U.S.

Another candidate for the weird stuff burnin' pile - a carnival ride! At least it wasn't full of kids at the time. How soon before that happens, eh?

Yer neighbor Dutchsinse is showing how the polar vortex that plagued us all winter is due to return in September. He (I think rightfully) concludes that it really never left!

We're going to witness a lot of "never before seen" events in the coming years as the Earth's ecology collapses (due to our idiocy) on our way out. Already we're seeing sinkholes all over the place, lots of subsidence events, water going toxic, and trees dying all over the world, not to mention all the other events you chronicle each day.

How about 2 fires stations in 2 days?! (Maybe we should start counting THEM!)

I agree that "add-on" fires, like the ODOT truck responding to a car crash, will only become more frequent and involve more vehicles as time goes on. Wait til all the 100s of vehicles travelling through the area are effected the same way! NYAAAAAHH!!

Naked guy story may end up being a delayed death (like yer buddy) in the next few days - would be nice if we could follow this up to see.

Okay. i'm done for now. I gotta go lay down.

Thanks Jonny.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
