No idea why. I mean, c'mon, it's not global cooling that destroyed so much ice in the Arctic that a container ship was able to sail through for the first time in human history. It's not global cooling making Greenland lose a billion tons of ice PER DAY. It's not global cooling that's made Antarctica lose 3 trillion tons of ice in the last 25 years. It's not global cooling that's making the oceans so much hotter, with record ocean temps set off California this year. You can see it with your own two eyes, looking at the ice in the Arctic ebb and flow year-by-year in animations. The 'ebbing' is intensifying as the ice disappears.

So, it's a crazy position to take. You have to ignore pretty much everything - measurements, observations, your own eyes, reason. I can picture their homes bursting into flame during summer and them fleeing into 120F temps screaming, 'Global cooling!'Jonny Mnemonichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06516458612879773986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4388504906915444063.post-43372370326843362932018-09-26T18:19:44.274-05:002018-09-26T18:19:44.274-05:00Ok, ONE sentence (hey, so sue me, aight?!).
Ta...Ok, ONE sentence (hey, so sue me, aight?!).

Taking into consideration that the moss is a member of an extremophile plant group - living in very harsh conditions (especially WINTER there) - it's unlikely that summers get all that cold, so it seems like their drying up is a matter more of lack of precipitation than anything else. Moss likes damp conditions - not windy and dry. If the summer season doesn't warm up enough to produce any melt or precipitation, or because it's becoming shorter in duration than they're used to, I can see THAT as being a cause.

"Antarctic mosses are extremophiles, the only plants that can survive the continent’s frigid winters. They live in a frozen desert where life-sustaining water is mostly locked up as ice, and they grow at a glacial pace – typically just 1 mm a year.

These mosses are home to tardigrades and other organisms, all of which survive harsh conditions by drying out and becoming dormant. When meltwater is available, mosses soak it up like a sponge and spring back to life."

I see your point, and I think mine is still valid - they're pushing their 'global cooling' agenda by misstating the title.

Notice the hopium filled conclusion - you know, IF WE do "something" maybe they'll survive. Like it's up to HUMANITY, the species with the worst track record on the planet for fucking shit up and destroying everything it touches. Many theories have hoped to explain this bizarre occurrence in the Andean province of Chimborazo but it's not yet clear why these small greyish birds throw themselves into the freezing cold water of the lakes that are considered sacred by the local indigenous community.

"This happens every year, so it's a bit hard to prove that the birds are sick and die this way,"

Another theory says that the sulfuric steam from volcanic lakes is intoxicating the birds, however, no other local species appear to suffer from this. Although she hasn't been able to prove any of the theories, Santander believes the weather has something to do with the mysterious actions of the birds. "We consider that, because of the weather of the place, the strong winds make the birds fall into the lake and they receive a thermal shock that causes their death."
[i doubt it, since the CAN fly]

There are so many dead birds by the end that the locals have started incorporating them into their diet.

Miguel Marcatoma, a villager that attends the celebrations every year, told AP. Raúl Tenesaca, the local shaman, is the one who leads the purification ritual to honour the birds.

For him, the birds sacrifice themselves "for the life of the people who live here, in the coldest altitudes of this place". This is due to the area drying because of colder summers and stronger winds."

They were deceptive in that they're cherry-picking. The summers are only colder in EAST Antarctica. Antarctica as a whole has lost 3 trillion tons of ice, because ice loss in WEST Antarctica has been huge and rapidly increasing, and the Southern Ocean is warming.

https://www.iflscience.com/environment/antarctica-has-lost-3-trillion-tonnes-of-ice-in-25-years-time-is-running-out-for-the-frozen-continent/all/

They simply neglected to mention the fact that Antarctica as a whole is rapidly melting, despite the fact that so far East Antarctica isn't doing so bad when taken in isolation from the whole, other than the ozone depletion killing off the moss. But no more, which might be comforting to people who have long talked to their plants or played music for them.

Pollan says plants have all the same senses as humans, and then some. In addition to hearing, taste, for example, they can sense gravity, the presence of water, or even feel that an obstruction is in the way of its roots, before coming into contact with it. Take for example the people who were standing around when a sinkhole opened up and they dropped to their deaths instantly. That could be any of us at any time. Being in a building isn't any deterrent, as we've seen a guy sleeping in bed (in Florida) was never seen again as a sinkhole ate part of his house - the part with his bedroom - and he disappeared.

But you don't even need a sinkhole to frighten you now.
