I backdated it a couple of days so it wouldn't just scroll off all of the daily updates (it's a big list), and I linked it on the right too, to make it handy. I'm not finished bolding stuff, but it's at least functional. I needed a new pair of sunglasses (because the Sun is now so infernally white and bright), and these were $30 (including an 8-gig MicroSD card to record on), and that seemed like a steal. So I could actually do that sort of 'Candid Camera' thing!

I do post links to here on news stories at news outlets from time to time, yes. I don't do it religiously or anything, but here and there, when it seems reasonably appropriate.Jonny Mnemonichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06516458612879773986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4388504906915444063.post-15515006169111070032013-05-19T16:24:13.756-05:002013-05-19T16:24:13.756-05:00No I didn't mean it that way but come to think...No I didn't mean it that way but come to think of it you could try wearing a 'HatCam' & make a very funny ELE prank out of that line for a dark humor Candid Camera bit for Youtube!

"If you mean, do I warn strangers, like the guy at Home Depot who recommended the Flood waterproofing stain...no, I don't do that. LMAO!"

Once in awhile I will tell a stranger but only through email. I remember twice doing it. Once was to the coroner's office who was performing autopsies on those two next-door neighbors who basically died at the same time & the other was to a cabinet maker who's car ignited first (most likely) & then started his business building on fire but I sent it to his business email address. They never responded & I didn't think they would. Also, occasionally I will make a comment at some of the news links listed here telling them to "check out the JJFH blog".

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4388504906915444063.post-3038981156514559132013-05-19T11:37:41.504-05:002013-05-19T11:37:41.504-05:00Thanks! I have cedar wood, but you're totally right about the composite plastic wood stuff. If I had it to do over again, that's what I'd use. My neighbor has a fence made out of that and though you can tell it's obviously not real wood, it still looks decent, and that composite plastic stuff is waaay less porous than any wood. Less maintenance too. Oh, I also used those nice coated hex (driver) screws to connect stuff, so hopefully there'll be little exposed steel to rust. I love those screws!

I wouldn't say I've given up trying to warn people one on one in person. It's just that I don't actually meet many people, and I've warned everyone I know already. If I made a new friend, I'd warn them too. If you mean, do I warn strangers, like the guy at Home Depot who recommended the Flood waterproofing stain...no, I don't do that. Thinking about adding a layer of glossy exterior paint too, just for good measure!

I built a small storage building too, and I applied sealant to every board as I built it, then coated that with two layers of glossy exterior paint, and then put some plastic sheeting on all the horizontal surfaces. I keep emergency supplies in that, in case the house burns down. Two bunks in there, solar panel, backup batteries, food, water purification, lights, books, tools, clothes. On the outside it looks like a giant plant stand, and there are 23 containers with plants on three tiers. Everybody in the neighborhood knows me as 'that gardener guy', so the fact that I have a giant 'plant stand' bristling with plants doesn't get me any weird looks. The gases could build up under the porch where all of the rusty nails are sticking through & where the wood is most absorbent because it is usually unpainted & raw. This is fresh in my mind because I have been working under my porch raising sunken areas of my house.

"Note: Porches have the same vulnerabilities as pallets: absorbent wood and nails and screws that rust.
